The Hottest Summer in Recent Memory

September 15th, 2016 by admin

The temperatures have probably been as hot as they always are, but this feels like the hottest summer I’ve ever been in. It was bad enough to have to deal with the heat, but when I faced a broken air conditioner, things got even worse. Before seeking HVAC repair in NYC, I tried various methods to stay cool, but it was all a waste of time. I pointed multiple fans at myself, but that only made me hot, because the same hot air kept blowing back into my face. I tried making my own air conditioner out of tubes, a water pump, a bucket of ice, and a fan. The air felt a little cooler, but only for a short period of time, and the ice melted away.

I placed a few of the fans in the window and let them blow at night, which helped cool the air as I slept, but once the sun came up again, the air would only get hotter, bringing me right back to the point of having hot air blowing at me. I admitted defeat and placed a call to a repair company as a last resort. I didn’t want to spend the money for repairs, but I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Spending money for repairs beats dying over heat exhaustion.

It was so hot that I swore I could see heat waves in my home. The repair worker made a few adjustments and the air conditioner was working again in 10 minutes. All he had to do was put in a new capacitor and add more coolant to make it work again. I probably could have figured out how to do that myself, but only certified people are allowed to buy coolant, so I would have needed to call the repair worker anyway.
